Wounded: The Battle Back Home
Wounded: The Battle Back Home is a 12-part documentary series that follows the overwhelming challenges and extraordinary triumphs of the youngest generation of combat veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Each short film profiles an individual warrior in his or her quest to find a new purpose through which they ground their post-service life.
The films premiered monthly on MSNBC as part of a year-long show called “Taking the Hill,” which the network developed around the series. Netflix acquired the series after it aired, with royalties accruing to leading veterans’ non-profit, Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), which commissioned the work. Grammy award-winning band Imagine Dragons released a music video using footage from the series to promote it.
The series received critical acclaim, including a Clio Bronze Award and a shortlist recognition for its special edition trailer featuring Imagine Dragons
The Work
Production Assistant
As a Production Assistant on Wounded: The Battle Back Home, I supported the crew across various stages of production, managing call sheets, coordinating logistics, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations on set. I worked closely with producers and directors to keep shoots running efficiently, often juggling multiple responsibilities behind the scenes.
From prepping locations to supporting talent and crew, I helped maintain a professional, respectful environment, essential when telling such personal and emotional stories. This role sharpened my ability to problem-solve under pressure and deepened my understanding of documentary storytelling and production workflow.
